Technical Specifications

RMC is in the process of updating all eLearning courses from an Adobe Flash platform to an HTML5 platform. Most eLearning courses are currently using the Flash format. Technical specifications for both formats can be found here.

Most Common Issues

Please note that the issues and resolutions below primarily relate to the Flash-based courses, although some resolutions may apply to the newer HTML5-based courses.

1: The Page is Not Loading

Example:

The online course contains several large media files, and some pages may load slowly. However, If a page in the online course appears to not be loading (see above for an example), try the following:

  1. Advance one page and then come back to the page that was not loading. This will often fix the issue.
  2. Try Refreshing your Browser

2: The Gaps Notebook is Not Opening

If the Gaps Notebook is not opening, you may need to hold down the Control key when clicking the link. If you are still not able to access the Gaps Notebook, use the link below:

3: I Click on a Link and Nothing Happens

When clicking links throughout the online course, it may appear as if nothing happens. Depending on the Internet browser you are using or the browser's settings, the link may be opening in a new tab rather than a new window. Look at a different window you currently have open for the new tab.

It is possible to change your browser's settings in Internet Options to either open new pages in a new window, or to select "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately."

The link may also be blocked by your pop-up blocker. You may need to adjust your pop-up blocker settings in Internet Options or add the course website to your list of Allowed Sites.

4: I Can't See the Entire Screen

Course requirements specify a minimum screen resolution of 1024 by 768. To adjust your screen resolution, right click on your desktop and choose "Properties". Select the Settings tab. Increase your screen resolution by dragging the slider, and then click Apply. If you prefer to not change the screen resolution, try clicking F11 in the course window to switch to full screen viewing.

If you are using Firefox, hitting the F11 key may not work initially. If you are using Firefox and the F11 key does NOT work for you, click on the URL at the top of the screen and then press your F11 key.

5: The Course is Not Tracking My Progress

Some of our online courses are designed to track each page the user has visited and remember which pages have been viewed. If you have viewed pages and you are seeing that they are not being tracked, try the following:

  1. Make sure when you exit the course, you click the button rather than simply X'ing out of the browser.
  2. If you have had problems with the course tracking your progress, "test" the tracking by:
    • Closing out of the course
    • Logging back in
    • Click through a few pages to see if the course is tracking which pages you have viewed.
    • Close out and log back in again to see if the recently viewed pages have been tracked.

6: I get a Script Error

Example

This error may be caused by rapidly clicking the "Next" or "Back" buttons to navigate throughout the course. If you get this error, close out of the course and then log back in. Use the Menu tab if you need to advance several pages.
